HOW DOES A YACHT CHARTER WORK?

To charter a yacht is the lease or rental of a motor yacht for an agreed period of time, usually a week in the case of luxury yachts.  Yacht can also be chartered for a day, weekend, corporate events, special occasions or just for fun.

most common Types of Yachts for Charter?

THE TWO MOST COMMON TYPES ARE MOTOR YACHTS AND SAILING YACHTS.

Motor yachts tend to have more on board amenities and are capable of far greater speeds: Sporty open yachts might reach speeds over 50 knots when the average is under 20 knots.

Sailing yachts are typically much slower than motor yachts but offer a more 'traditional' cruising experience, and classic and high performance regatta racers also fall into this category. The majority of catamarans (two hulls) are also sailing yachts and offer greater stability and a shallower draft for closer access to beaches.

2-Advance Provision Allowance (APA), this includes food, beverages, fuel and possibly dockage, it is usually charged at around 30% of the yacht's base rate.

3- Crew tips, tips are usually made at the charter"s discretion based on the service they have received, the amount may vary depending on the destination of the charter. An American crew will expect a tip no less than 15% whereas a European crew will be happy with a tip between 5 to 10 percent.

can i specify the food and drinks to be servedon board ?

Several day before your charter start, we will ask you to complete a detailed questionnaire describing the preference and special needs of all the members of your party, such as dietary or medical requirements, details of any allergies, and your sporting or entertainment request. This will enable us and the crew of your chosen yacht to ensure that everything possible is done to make your charter a wonderful experience.

What is "APA" in yacht charter?

APA stands for Advanced Provisioning Allowance. How exactly it works and why it exists may seem confusing. With this in mind, our team thought it would be a good idea to break things down and start from the beginning, so here it goes!

When does APA apply?

APA will apply, as standard on pretty much most professional yacht charters, and is close to obligatory for all luxury yacht charters. There are a few sailing yachts and motor yachts, more commonly in regions such as South East Asia which offer all inclusive packages. The difference with a luxury yacht charter and an all inclusive trip, is that on a luxury yacht charter you personally choose, in advance, whatever you would like to have on the yacht. Therefore if you want the best Champagne and the rarest selection of cigars, wine and the finest of meats, caviar etc.. you must pay for it, from the APA. The broker and the yacht crew will happily source and select all provisions on your behalf, they need the funds in order to do so, hence the APA.

How much is APA?

The amount varies from yacht to yacht and destination,  but is generally between 30% and 35% of the yacht charter fee. For example, it will be higher if the yacht has a higher fuel consumption, if you plan on doing lots of travelling, if you order the finest and most expensive brands of champagne, wines etc…

How do I pay the APA?

APA is payable in advance of your yacht charter, and normally at the same time as paying your initial charter fee. This is usually by bank transfer.

What happens if my APA does not cover the expenses on the yacht charter?

In the event that you ‘overspend’ your APA, you will need to pay up, before disembarking. You may be obliged to top up the APA during the yacht charter.

What if the APA yacht charter is more than I would like to spend?

If for example, you have budgeted €xxxxx to spend on expenses, but the APA is double that figure, you will still need to pay the APA in advance. However, you should communicate carefully your expenses budget with the broker and the Captain. If you put realistic constraints on the budget for food and drinks, then the Captain will do his/her best to stay within this budget. If the Captain and yacht broker know the figure you want to work with, then they will be able to assess how feasible it is in advance, and for example; adapt the planned itinerary to meet your budget, in terms of fuel spend. With clear communication, realistic budgets, and advanced provisioning, it may indeed (depending on your requests and the yacht) be possible to spend a lot less than the APA and have the difference returned to you at the end of the yacht charter.

do all yachts accept children on board?

Most yachts are very welcoming to children some are equipped with children in mind.

However, a few yachts may stipulate a minimum age for children and/or have a requirement fort a nanny to be on board during the charter. The crew cannot provide child minding or babysitting services.

WHAT IS A CHARTER AGREEMENT?

After the availability of your chosen yacht has been verified, you will receive a standard MYBA Charter Agreement for signature.

Chartering a yacht is great fun, however there are a few points to take on board such as cruise dates, destinations, cost and which yacht to charter. A broker will put together a contract that covers all of the above along with any additional information you may need to know about.

Contracts can often be a little confusing. Don’t worry unduly, international charter organisations have made sure the jargon is easy for charterers to understand, so that’s good news.

The Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) terms and the Caribbean Terms Inclusive (CTI) are two of the basic terms under which yacht charters operate.

NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT?

YACH CHARTER SOLUTIONS and crews are well known for being protective and discreet regarding their charter clients. However, a non-disclosure agreement isn’t seen as being unusual. If you’re a celebrity for instance who doesn’t want the paparazzi to know your itinerary, chartering a superyacht with this non-disclosure agreement is a way of protecting privacy. Likewise, corporate executives can also take advantage of a non-disclosure agreement.

IS SMOKING ON BOARD ALLOWED?

Smoking is only allowed outside on deck and in the case of some yachts in dedicated outside areas only.  Please consult our team for verification

WHAT RECREATION EQUIPMENT IS INCLUDED?

The recreation equipment listed for the yacht is believed to be correct but cannot be guaranteed as they are liable to change at short notice.  Should changes become necessary, the owner of the yacht will make every effort possible to comparably replace the equipment.
