Approximately 35 miles east of New Providence and extending south-eastwardly for nearly 100 miles is the Exuma Cays, one of the crown jewels of The Bahamas. The pristine beauty, outstanding anchorages, and unspoiled marine environment of the Exumas are world-renowned.
Highbourne Cay is approximately 3 miles long, covering an area of +/- 500 acres. Highbourne fits its name perfectly – the island is shaped like the letter H and its highest point is over 100 feet above sea level, one of the highest elevations in the Exumas.
Eight beaches line the island’s shore. Highbourne’s East Beach is renowned world-wide for its beauty and is ranked as one of the best beaches in The Bahamas. With three miles of powdery-soft white sand, East Beach is one of the few places in the world where yours are often the only footprints in the sand.
Norman’s Cay is a small island of a few hundred acres to the northern end of the Exuma chain in the Bahamas. It is an island with a story and a spirit that belies its size. Over time it has housed pirates, drug-lords, film makers, explorers, writers and fishermen. You don’t need to know their stories to feel the charm here; it is the natural beauty of the island that feeds the imagination.
Whether it is the fishing enthusiasts looking for their big catch, a shallow flat looking for a bone, or the sun-seekers looking for our pristine white beach, Norman’s Cay has it all.
Shroud Cay is uninhabited and unconnected to other Exumas islands by ferry. A private yacht charter is the best way to visit Shroud Cay.
Tiny isle of mangroves sheltering conch, sea turtles & birds, part of the Exuma Cays marine park.
Hawksbill Cay in another uninhabited cay and part of the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park. It has moorings, trails, beaches and snorkeling areas.
Most well known for being the entrance to the Exumas Cays Land and Sea Park, Warderick Wells has a substantial amount to offer for all nature lovers.
Located between West Stroud Cay and Hog Cay, Warderick Wells has continually attracted many tourists to the area because of its involvement with the Land and Sea Park. At the entrance to the protected area the island makes a statement by displaying the skeleton of a 50 foot sperm whale. After losing a battle with a plastic bag from the ocean, the sperm whale reminds all visitors to act responsibly when out at sea.
Compass Cay is an island in The Bahamas, located in the Exuma district. The island, notable for its naturally-protected harbor, has been outfitted with a beach lodge and a marina. The island also has a famed population of docile nurse sharks.
The marina at Compass Cay, located in one of the rare totally protected harbors in the Exumas, is accessible from the Exuma Banks and the Exuma Sound through channels marked with buoys and range markers. The island attracts boats of all sizes, up to 180’ mega yachts.
Staniel Cay is located roughly 120 km south of Nassau and 400 km southeast of Florida. The island has a population of less than 118 full-time residents and has an area of less than 5 km²
Staniel Cay is located in close proximity with another Exuma island called PIG BEACH, officially known as Big Major Cay, which is an uninhabited island populated by swimming feral pigs. With a total of 365 islands, located south of Nassau and only 40 minutes from Florida, on the island of Big Mayor Cay, these pigs are found in abundance. Exuma's swimming Pigs draw thousands of tourists each year.
The swimming pigs are surrounded by a variety of local legends. Rumors suggests that the pigs were brought to the island by sailors who planned to eat them upon their return.
